Four things that cost sales in the first rows
Sold-out products up top
Products with nothing left to buy in the rows shoppers see first. Every click on one is a dead end.
Sizes running out
Products where half or fewer of the sizes or options can still be bought, so most shoppers won't find theirs.
New arrivals buried
Products added in the last 30 days sitting further down while older ones hold the top rows.
Sold out above in stock
Across the first 100 products, how many sold-out ones a shopper scrolls past to reach ones they can buy.
Shoppers decide from the first row
On a phone, a collection page shows two to four products before the first scroll, and most visitors decide from those whether anything is worth a click. Shopify's built-in sorts rank on one thing at a time: "Best selling" looks at all-time sales and ignores stock, so last season's hits and sold-out products often hold the top rows.
Checking a collection now and then catches the worst of it. Keeping it right every day, as stock and demand change, is what SellRank does.

Questions about the checker
Is the collection checker free?+
Yes. There is no sign-up and no limit on the stores you check, apart from a few checks a minute to keep it fair.
Does it work on any Shopify store?+
On any Shopify store whose collection pages are public. A password-protected store can't be read from outside. If a store uses a custom (headless) storefront, try its yourstore.myshopify.com address.
Where does the data come from, and is it stored?+
Shopify publishes a public list of each collection's products, in the collection's own order, at the collection's address followed by /products.json. The checker reads the first 100 products from that list once, works out the report, and stores nothing.
Why might the order differ from what I see on my store?+
The checker shows the order Shopify holds for the collection. Some filter, search or personalisation apps re-order products in the browser after the page loads, and a shopper can change the sort themselves; in those cases the page can look different.
A product shows as sold out but I still sell it. Why?+
The checker uses Shopify's own stock status. If you take orders through pre-orders, or track stock outside Shopify, Shopify may report products as unavailable that you still sell.
How do I fix what it finds?+
By hand: in Shopify admin, open the collection, set Sort to Manually and drag sold-out products to the end. Automatically: SellRank re-orders the collection by what is selling, keeps sold-out products at the end and re-sorts on a schedule.
Want your collections ordered by what sells?
SellRank re-orders every collection by real demand, keeps sold-out products at the end and re-sorts on its own. Free on one collection.
