Upfront ("the app") is an Android application that helps you write a resume. This policy explains what information the app handles, where it goes, and the choices you have. It is written to be read, not skimmed; if anything is unclear, write to the contact address above.

1. The short version

  • Your resumes are stored on your phone. We do not run user accounts and we do not keep a copy of your resume on our servers.
  • When you use an AI feature, the text of the relevant resume is sent to our server and from there to an AI provider to generate or check content. It is processed and returned; we do not store it, sell it, or use it for advertising.
  • You can delete everything the app holds at any time from Settings.

2. Information the app handles

Information you enter. Name, contact details, education, work history, projects, skills, job descriptions you paste, evidence notes and interview notes, and any file you upload to import an existing resume. This information lives in the app's private storage on your device.

Information sent for AI processing. When you tap an AI action (generate, rewrite, condense, review, truth check, introduction script, tailor for a job, or import a file), the app sends the text needed for that action to our server, which forwards it to the AI provider named in section 4. Only the content required for the action is sent. Your evidence notes, interview notes and version history are not sent.

Technical information. Our server receives the standard information any web request carries (IP address, request time, app version) and a random installation identifier that the app generates on first launch. The identifier is not linked to your name and is used only to limit the number of requests per device.

Information we do not collect. The app does not collect your location, contacts, photos (other than a photo you choose to add to your resume, which stays on the device), device identifiers such as the advertising ID, or usage analytics. There are no advertisements in the app.

3. How information is used

  • To build, edit, format and export your resume on your device.
  • To generate, rewrite, check and tailor resume content when you ask the app to.
  • To keep the service working: rate limiting, abuse prevention and error diagnosis.

We do not use your information for advertising, profiling, or to build any database of candidates, and we do not share it with recruiters or employers.

4. Service providers

AI provider. AI features are processed by Google Gemini API (Google LLC). The provider receives the resume text for the request and returns generated text. We use the provider's paid API tier, under which the provider does not use your content to train its models. The provider's own privacy terms apply to its processing: https://ai.google.dev/gemini-api/terms.

Hosting. Our server runs on Render in the United States region. The server does not write your resume content to disk or to a database. Standard request logs (without resume content) are kept for up to 30 days for troubleshooting.

We do not use any other third-party services inside the app.

5. Retention and deletion

  • Resume data stays on your device until you delete it. Use Settings → Delete all resumes, delete individual resumes from the home screen, or uninstall the app, which removes the app's private storage.
  • Backups you export (JSON files) are under your control wherever you save them.
  • AI requests are processed in real time and are not retained by our server. The AI provider's retention for abuse monitoring, if any, is described in its policy linked above.
  • If you email us, we keep the correspondence for as long as needed to resolve the matter.

6. Security

Data in transit between the app, our server and the AI provider is encrypted with TLS. Data on your device is protected by your phone's own security (screen lock, encryption). Because there are no accounts, there are no passwords for us to protect or lose.

7. Children

The app is intended for people who are at least 16 years old and preparing for work or study. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child has used the app and sent information to us, contact us and we will delete it.

8. Your rights

Under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (India) and similar laws elsewhere, you may ask what personal data we hold about you, ask for correction or deletion, and withdraw consent. Because we do not store your resume, in almost all cases the data is already only on your device and in your control. For anything else, write to the contact address above; we reply within 30 days.

9. International users

If you use the app outside India, your AI requests may be processed in the countries where our hosting and AI providers operate. By using the AI features you consent to that transfer.

10. Changes

We will post any change to this policy at this address and update the effective date. If a change materially affects how your information is used, the app will show a notice before the new behaviour applies.
