SellRank vs SortWise vs Sortello, RankRobin and More: Shopify Sort Apps Compared by Name (2026)

15 October 202610 min readBy , LeelaRam Technologies

Seven Shopify apps that reorder collection pages, compared on what they rank by, how often they re-sort, how much control you keep, whether they can show the new order worked, and what they cost. Facts from each App Store listing on 15 October 2026.

Shopify's built-in collection sorts each rank by a single key: best selling, title, price, date, or the order you set by hand. A whole category of apps exists to fill the gap. They compute an order from sales, stock, views or margin and write it into the collection's manual sort order, then do it again on a schedule. Our ranking of the approaches, from native sorts to rule-based apps and suites, deliberately names no brands. This post does the opposite: seven named apps, side by side.

We make one of these apps, SellRank, so read this as a comparison by an interested party. To keep it fair, every fact about the other six apps comes from its Shopify App Store listing as it read on 15 October 2026: launch date, reviews, plans and prices in US dollars per month. We have not installed and benchmarked each one, and listings change, so check the current listing before you decide. We also say plainly where SellRank is not the best choice.

How we compared them

  • What it ranks by: sales only, or also views, add-to-carts, stock, margin or your own fields.
  • How often it re-sorts: on demand, daily, hourly, or when stock changes.
  • How much control you keep: pins, demotions, drag and drop, and whether your choices survive the next re-sort.
  • Out-of-stock handling: whether sold-out products drop down automatically and come back on restock.
  • Proof: whether the app can show that the new order performed better than the old one.
  • Price and limits: what the free plan covers and what the paid tiers cost.
  • Track record: how long it has been listed and how many reviews it has.

The seven apps at a glance

SellRank

SellRank describes a collection the way a merchandiser does. You split it into percentage slots, each with its own strategy, and let the rest follow one ranking. Or you blend several metrics into a single 0 to 100 score per product. It ranks from 19 strategies, including revenue, conversion, sell-through and, on Scale and up, profit and margin from your cost per item. Views and add-to-carts come from its own first-party web pixel, so it does not need Google Analytics, though Scale can import up to 90 days of GA4 history.

The part we built it around is proof. Every published order is kept as a version. Daily views, carts, orders and revenue are attributed to whichever version was live, so you can see whether the new order beat the old one. Drafts can be scheduled to go live and revert automatically when a campaign ends. An hourly sort-health check flags any collection whose live order on Shopify no longer matches what was pushed.

  • Free: 1 collection, full editor, live preview, pins and drag and drop, 1 live sync.
  • Grow, $29 a month ($290 a year): 15 collections, unlimited syncs, daily or weekly automatic re-sorts, drafts, schedules and auto-revert, version history, performance analytics and sort-health monitoring.
  • Scale, $69 a month ($690 a year): 75 collections, a global rule for every collection, GA4 backfill, profit metrics, drift alerts.
  • Max, $249 a month ($2,490 a year): unlimited collections and priority support.

SortWise Collection Sort

SortWise's listing says it re-sorts collections every hour from real sales, views and inventory. It moves best sellers and new arrivals up and sends sold-out products to the bottom. It offers pins, drag and drop, push-down, hiding and product grouping, plus an AI option that builds a sort strategy from a plain-language goal. The paid plans add metafield sorting, multi-location inventory and A/B testing of sort strategies.

Pricing on the listing: a free plan with up to 10 collections, hourly sorting and out-of-stock push-down, within 500 orders a month and 10,000 products. Growth is $9 a month for 50 collections, Pro $19 for 100, and Premium $49 for 500, each with order and product limits. It is worth a look if you want hourly re-sorts and testing on a small budget.

ST: Product & Collection Sort

This is the veteran of the group, listed since April 2021 with 274 reviews averaging 5.0. Its rules can use revenue, profit, tags, sizes, metafields, vendor, product age and GA4 data such as views, add-to-carts and the cart-to-view ratio. It adds random, shuffle and weighted sorts, multi-segment and stack sorting, featured pins, demotion by tag or vendor, and sold-out products pushed to the bottom or removed.

It is billed by the number of sorts a month rather than by collections. The free plan covers 250 sorts for stores processing fewer than 250 orders. Basic is $19 a month for 1,000 sorts, Business $49 for 5,000, and Unlimited $179, which adds metafield sorting and a dedicated account manager. It is worth a look if you want the longest track record and a deep rule builder.

Sortello

Sortello sorts by best sellers or live sales velocity over the last 7, 30 or 60 days. It pushes sold-out products down in real time and restores them on restock, and can pin new arrivals to the top for a set number of days. It also has tag-based pin rules and between 1 and 12 locked featured slots. Scheduled re-sorts run every 6 hours, daily or weekly, and sort history keeps one-click undo.

The free plan sorts up to 10 collections with any rule and includes the manual editor and one-click out-of-stock push-down. Pro is $9.99 a month for 50 collections with the automation; Plus is $29 for unlimited collections and bulk-applying one sort everywhere. It is worth a look if best sellers plus sold-out handling is most of what you need.

Collection Resort

Collection Resort sorts by best sellers, revenue, sales, price, discount, inventory, stock and variant availability. It pushes sold-out and low-stock products down, pins top products and boosts new arrivals. Its free plan already covers unlimited collections. Starter at $9 a month adds daily or hourly schedules, re-sorting when stock changes, and storefront badges. Pro at $19 adds GA4 conversion-rate sorting and sort reports with CSV export. It is worth a look if you have many collections and want a generous free tier.

RankRobin

RankRobin ranks by units sold and trending on its free plan, adding revenue and year-over-year on Pro, and pushes out-of-stock products to the bottom. Its listing is explicit on one point many others leave out: it writes to Shopify's native sort order, with no theme edits. The free plan covers 25 collections and up to 2,000 products with a 90-day data window and a daily re-sort. Pro is $19 a month for 100 collections, a one-year window and product pinning; Enterprise is $39.99 for unlimited collections and history.

Outranked

Outranked does one job: it moves sold-out products to the bottom of your collections on a schedule. It adds low-stock alerts, email and Slack summaries, a sort history dashboard and, on Premium, a dry-run preview. The free Starter plan covers 5 collections with daily and 6-hour sorting. Essential is $4.99 a month for 25 collections and hourly sorting, Premium $9.99 for 100, Ultimate $19.99 for unlimited. If out-of-stock products at the top are the only problem, it is the cheapest fix on this list.

What the listings do not tell you

Three questions decide how an app behaves on a real store, and most listings answer only some of them. Ask each developer before you commit.

  • Does it write into Shopify's own manual sort order, or reorder products in the browser with JavaScript? A written order works with every theme and is what search engines and shoppers without JavaScript see. RankRobin and SellRank say they write the native order; for the others, ask.
  • What happens when you uninstall? With a written order, the collection keeps the last order pushed. With a script-based one, it reverts the moment the app is gone.
  • Can it tell you whether the new order worked? SortWise lists A/B testing of sort strategies on its paid plans, and SellRank attributes views, carts and revenue to each published order. The other listings describe sort history, reports or analytics, not performance by order. Without one of these, you are judging the change by feel.

Where SellRank is not the best choice

  • Budget. SellRank's first paid plan is $29 a month; most apps here start between $4.99 and $19.
  • Free plan reach. SellRank's free plan covers one collection, so you can see the product on your own store. SortWise and Sortello give you 10, RankRobin 25, Collection Resort unlimited.
  • Re-sort frequency. SellRank re-sorts daily or weekly at an hour you choose, and checks drift hourly. If you want an hourly re-sort or an instant reaction to every stock change, SortWise, Collection Resort and Sortello list those.
  • Track record. SellRank was listed on 14 October 2026 and has no reviews yet. If reviews matter most, ST: Product & Collection Sort has years of them.
  • A single job. If all you need is sold-out products moved down, Outranked or Sortello do it for less.

Where SellRank is different

  • Composition, not just a sort: percentage slots that each follow their own strategy, with a blended score for the rest.
  • Proof by version: performance attributed to each published order, so you can compare one week's order with the next.
  • Campaign control: drafts, scheduled go-live and automatic revert, with every published order restorable in one click.
  • Sort health: an hourly check that the live order on Shopify still matches what was pushed, with one-click re-sync.
  • Its own data: a first-party pixel for views and add-to-carts that collects aggregates only, with no customer data, plus profit ranking from your cost per item.

How to choose in an afternoon

  1. 1Write down the one problem you are solving: sold-out products on top, stale best sellers, campaigns, or proving what works.
  2. 2Shortlist the two or three apps whose listings name that problem, and check the free plan covers your busiest collection.
  3. 3Install one at a time on your most-visited collection and note its current order before you change anything.
  4. 4Check in Shopify admin that the collection shows the new order under manual sort, and view the page with JavaScript off.
  5. 5Run it for at least a week, then compare views, add-to-carts and orders for that collection against the week before.
  6. 6Keep the app that moved the number, and uninstall the others so they do not overwrite each other's order.

Common questions

What is the best collection sorting app for Shopify?+

It depends on the problem. For pushing sold-out products down cheaply, Outranked or Sortello. For hourly re-sorts and A/B tests on a budget, SortWise. For the longest track record and a deep rule builder, ST: Product & Collection Sort. For composing a collection from several strategies and proving which order worked, SellRank, which we make.

Is there a free Shopify app to sort collections by best sellers?+

Yes. On 15 October 2026, SortWise, Collection Resort and RankRobin all listed free plans that sort by sales on several collections, and SellRank's free plan covers one collection with the full editor. Shopify's own Best selling sort is free too, but it ranks by all-time sales and ignores stock.

Can I use two collection sorting apps at once?+

Not on the same collection. Both apps write the collection's manual order, so each re-sort overwrites the other's. Use one app per collection, and uninstall the ones you are not keeping.

Do collection sorting apps slow down my store?+

An app that writes Shopify's own manual sort order changes data in your admin, not the page your shoppers load, so the storefront renders as it always did. Apps that reorder products in the browser add script to every collection page. Ask which approach an app uses.
