SellRank 1.4 is out: Settings shows the engagement pixel connecting step by step and tells you the moment it counts, an assistant on every page answers common questions and hands over to a person, and the app is redesigned with the sorting unchanged.
SellRank went live on the Shopify App Store on 14 October 2026. A week later, on 20 and 21 October, we shipped SellRank 1.4, the first release built entirely around what happens after a merchant clicks Install. This post walks through what changed and why. In short: the engagement pixel now tells you when it is connected, there is an assistant in the corner of every page with a person behind it, and the app has been redesigned around the questions a new merchant has. The sorting itself, which is the part that has to be exactly right, did not change.
Nothing needs installing. SellRank runs on our servers, so every store has 1.4 already. The one exception to 'nothing to do' is in the first section, so start there if you installed in mid-October.
The fix first: stores installed from 14 October now get their pixel
SellRank counts product views and add-to-carts with its own engagement pixel. It adds the pixel to your store through Shopify's Web Pixels API the first time the app opens, so there is nothing to paste into a theme. From 14 October, a change in how SellRank checked for an existing pixel meant that stores installing for the first time never had one added. For those stores, views and add-to-carts weren't counted, and Settings showed 'needs attention'.
That is fixed. If you installed SellRank between 14 and 20 October, open the app once and the pixel is added. Rankings built on orders, revenue, price or newest don't use the pixel, so they were never affected. Rankings that use views, add-to-carts or conversion rate start counting from the first storefront visit after the pixel is added. On the Scale plan you can also connect a GA4 property and import up to 90 days of history, so those rankings have something to work with while the pixel builds its own record.
Settings shows the pixel connecting, step by step
A new pixel is never instant. Shopify has to switch it on, and then someone has to open a product page on your storefront before there is a visit to count. Before 1.4, Settings showed that perfectly normal wait as a problem, which is not what you want to see ten minutes after installing an app.
Settings now leads with an Engagement pixel card. While a new pixel connects, it shows three steps, added, switched on and first visit, with what to expect at each one and what already works in the meantime. Two buttons sit beside them: Open your store, to make that first visit yourself, and Check now. Once the pixel is counting, the card shows the last 7 days of views and add-to-carts and when the last visit came in. If the pixel is ever missing or pointing somewhere it shouldn't, the card says which, and how to repair it.
You also don't have to keep refreshing. Settings and the home page check by themselves every 20 seconds while they are open, for up to 15 minutes, and tell you the moment the first visit is counted. While the pixel connects, the home page explains the wait in a banner, then says once that the pixel is connected.
An assistant on every page, with a person behind it
Some questions are part of almost every new install. Why do views show zero on day one? Why did my collection switch to manual sorting? How do I make my first smart sort, what does each plan include, and what happens if I uninstall? Until 1.4, the answer to each of those was on the Help page or in an email to us. Now there is an assistant in the bottom-right corner of every page that answers them at once.
Its written answers cover the pixel showing zero, the switch to manual sorting, a first smart sort, plans and billing, scheduling, sort health, failed syncs, Google Analytics, profit ranking and uninstalling. When AI helps with a question those answers don't cover, it is told only your plan, how many smart sorts you have, whether any failed or drifted, and whether the pixel has counted visits. It is never told about your products, orders or customers.
The assistant is the quick route, not a wall. Talk to a person turns the conversation into a support thread, with an optional note, and questions about refunds or bugs always offer that option. Nothing is kept unless you hand the conversation over.
Behind the assistant, every new support question, reply and hand-over now reaches us by email straight away. Before, a new thread waited in the support inbox until someone looked. Now a person sees it sooner.
A Help page you can learn from
The old Help page was one long card of text. It was accurate, and hard to use. The new one is laid out to learn from:
- The walkthrough video at the top, with buttons to create a smart sort or ask the assistant.
- The four steps as cards, each linked to the moment in the video that shows it.
- How the order is decided: percentage slots drawn as a bar, then the Balanced score with its metrics and presets.
- Where the data comes from, and what runs on its own, including drafts, go-live and revert dates, versions and daily or weekly re-sorts, with the plan each one needs.
- Common questions that open on click. They use the same answers as the assistant, so the page and the chat never disagree.
Home, editor, Activity and Support, redesigned
The rest of the app now matches Settings and Help. The home page opens with an overview of every smart sort: how many there are, what's scheduled, the last sync and anything that needs attention. Each smart sort then gets its own card with its slots, its status, when it last synced, when it re-sorts and its sort health.
In the smart sort editor, every section has a short line explaining what it does, from choosing the collection to scheduling a change. Activity describes syncs and versions in plain words, such as Sync now, Scheduled re-sort or Published, rather than codes. Support shows each thread as a conversation.
This was a presentation change only. Every field and action works as before, and the code that ranks your products and plans the moves was not touched. Every ranking option is verified against known inputs, and the move planner is tested on over 78,000 cases.
Already reviewed? Update it any time
A store can leave one review per app on the Shopify App Store, and can update it whenever it likes. If your store has already reviewed SellRank, Rate SellRank in Settings now says so and links to the App Store listing, where you can change your stars or your words. If something we fixed in 1.4 was what held you back, we'd love it if you took another look.
What's next: SellRank Filters
SellRank decides the order of a collection. The next app in the family decides what a shopper can narrow it down to. SellRank Filters is a product filter for Shopify collection pages, built on Shopify's own Search & Discovery filters. It takes your theme's fonts, colours and product cards, matches size and stock on the same variant, and has a filter sheet made for phones. It is in development and being tested on Shopify's own themes now. Filtered results keep the collection's order, so a SellRank sort still decides what shoppers see first.
The early list hears first and gets a first look before launch. You can join it from the SellRank Filters page on our website.
Every release, in one place
Each SellRank release that a merchant could notice is listed, dated, in our changelog, with what was new, what improved and what was fixed. If you'd like to know what changed before you open the app, start there.
If you haven't tried SellRank yet, it ranks the products in any Shopify collection by real performance, such as views, add-to-carts, orders, revenue, conversion rate or profit, and writes that order into Shopify's own manual sort with no theme edits. Install it free from the Shopify App Store at apps.shopify.com/sellrank-collection-sort. The free plan covers one collection with the full editor, live preview and one live sync.
